Agreement Letter 2017: Activities and results

Work plan that was followed in the three Days the following steps: 
  1. Presentation by the teachers Adolfo Cazorla and Ignacio de los Ríos, as coordinators of the days, the conceptual framework on the IAR Principles and the DVGT.
  2. Presentation of Case Studies from different real experiences by the participants.
  3. Discussion and reflection in the simultaneous Working Groups on each one of the exposed cases and in relation to the following questions: What situations (problems, needs or opportunities) exist? What actions (strategies, methodologies, projects) are undertaken from the Business field / Business Associations and from the University level, to integrate business reality in the university ?, and What lessons of experience for the future of your Company-organization or University?
  4. Finally, the results were shared and integrated, sharing the conclusions reached from each of the groups.
Companies, Associations and Universities (2017)

Taking into account the experience accumulated by the GESPLAN-UPM Group from the Network of Universities in Latin America and to give continuity to other rural development activities that had been taking place for years, they were carried out held three Workshop-Days in Lima (Peru); Cuenca (Ecuador) and Bogotá (Colombia).

A total of 193 attendees participated in the three Conference sessions, distributed as follows: 37 people from Public Administrations, 57 managers and representatives of professional Associations and Consortiums, 21 managers from private companies, and 78 academic managers (teachers and researchers) from Universities public and private. Therefore, a total of 156 people (81%) non-state actors were reached.

From the point of view of the number of participating entities, in total in the three Days representatives of 100 different entities participated, distributed as follows: 26 Public Administrations (National, Regional and Local), 34 Professional Associations and Consortiums, 17 Private Companies, and 23 public and private universities. Therefore, a total of 74% of non-state entities was reached.
Organization and participation in the Conference 

Three conferences were held in collaboration with FAO during 2017. The first two were held in Lima (Peru) and Cuenca (Ecuador), coordinated by Dr. Adolfo Cazorla, responsible for 13 years of the GESPLAN group- UPM, and the third in Bogotá (Colombia), coordinated by Dr. Ignacio de los Ríos, current director of GESPLAN. They included the participation of non-state actors: academics from faculties, Business / Management Schools and representatives of the private sector, particularly from small companies in the territories.

In these Conferences, with 34% of attendees, the participation of the Business sector and professional Associations stood out; especially the participation of Directors of the Cencosud Peru Business Consortium, one of the most important business groups in Peru. In addition, there was the participation of the Association of Agricultural Producing Guilds of Peru (AGAP), a union that represents the most important professional Associations in Peru: the Peruvian Institute of Asparagus and Vegetables, the Association of Citrus Producers, the Avocado Producers Association, the Peruvian Association of Mango Producers and Exporters, the Table Grape Producers Association, the Granada Producers Association, and the Blueberry Producers Association.
The Conference-Workshop in Peru

Were held in collaboration with the PAD-School of Senior Management of the University of Piura and included the participation of the National University of San Marcos, the Catholic University of Santa Maria and the Catholic University Sedes Sapientiae that were co-organizers of the sessions. The Conference was called "Responsible Investment in Agri-Food Systems as an engine for Sustainable Economic Development: New University-Business Alliances" and took place on June 27 and 28, 2017 at the PAD facilities.

The Workshop Days in Ecuador

Were held in collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (UPS), and included the participation of the PROGRASERVIV Cooperative (Cooperative of Agricultural Production, Livestock and Food Services to Live Better), the National University of La Plata (Argentina) and the College of Postgraduates (Mexico) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food of Mexico. The Conference was called "University-Business Relations as the engine for Sustainable Economic Development: towards Responsible investment in Agri-Food Systems" and took place on September 21 and 22, 2017 at the facilities of the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (UPS) in Cuenca (Ecuador).

The Workshop Days in Colombia

Were held in collaboration with the National Land Agency (ANT), with the participation of the Autonomous University of Villavicencio, the Agrarian University of Colombia (UNIAGRARIA), the Autonomous University of Cartagena, the Santo Tomas University, UNIMINUTO University and Universidad Autónoma De Nariño, the Polytechnic Salesian University of Ecuador (UPS), the National Association of Rural Users of Colombia (ANUC), the Association of Small and Medium Agricultural Producers of Guejar (ASOPROGUEJAR) and the Alquería Company. The workshop days were called "The role of the University in the responsible governance of land tenure for sustainable rural development: towards new Public-Private alliances", and were held in Bogotá on September 26 and 27, 2017. Among the participating associations, the peasant tables of Nariño, Cauca and the agro-ecological one of Tolima, and of ANUC - National Association of Peasant Users stood out. Movements that are born as a result of the exclusion of the peasant in the country and in search of defending their rights as individuals and on their lands, which have been violated during the history of Colombia.
